Top 10 Favorite Gym Leaders

Oh boy here we go again. Its time to look into even more Pokemon. And what better to look at, than the Gym Leaders? You know who I'm talking about. The eight trainers who specialize in using certain types of Pokemon, the ones who give you a badge for defeating them and proving yourself so that you may enter the Pokemon League and challenge the Elite Four! So tonight since I wasn't able to provide you with what I promised on Facebook, I'm going to list off my top ten favorite Gym Leaders! Here we go!

Number 10: Roxie [Pokemon Black and White 2]

Okay folks, I love rock music and death metal  Roxie is a punk rocker and uses Poison type Pokemon which could not be more fitting. In the games she is cool and her Gym's design is frieking awesome, an underground bar where her band plays, just yes. Fuck yes. Not only that but her anime-counterpart is awesome as well and is depicted as an extremely powerful Gym Leader who never uses her full arsenal of Pokemon, only using three, while her opponent is allowed to use all of their Pokemon. Fighting with a handicap because of her own skill and technique. She's like a younger girl version of Kenpachi Zaraki. Rock on.

Number 9: Byron [Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum]

Dan Green voices Byron in the English adaption of the Pokemon anime. In a nerdy world that would be enough but I need more than that. Byron is.....manly. He owns a mine and works in it with his Steel type Pokemon and is widely respected for it. He is the father of another Gym Leader, Roark. But most importantly, HE LOVES DEFENSE!!!!!!!! I swear that line alone made him one of my favorite Gym Leaders ever. Hearing Dan Green yell that line over and over made me laugh out loud over how awesome it sounded. In the games he's pretty cool, but in the anime his awesomeness is raised to even higher levels just by having Dan Green voice him and giving him that meme worthy line.  Look that up on YouTube and see if you laugh or not.

Number 8: Sabrina [Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow.]

How come people didn't like Sabrina's new design? I thought it was cool. Oh well. Sabrina is a very interesting Gym Leader. In the games she's a pretty cool character since in her debut in the original games, Psychic type Pokemon didn't really have any weaknesses which meant you had no type advantage over any of her Pokemon, but in the anime and the Electric Tale of Pikachu her character is really fleshed out. In the anime she was a psychic prodigy whose powers developed so quickly that she became cold and cruel over time, playing with people with her psychic powers for her own amusement until a Haunter reminded her of her humanity by making her laugh for the first time in years. In the Electric Tale of Pikachu [A must read for any Pokemon fan that wants a mature and dark Pokemon story since it has dark artwork and actual violence] She is a shrine maiden who with her partner Abra is trying to destroy a Pokemon known as the Black Fog. This Pokemon which is basically a giant Haunter[ Look it up, its fucking terrifying] that kills people and Pokemon by using Dream Eater to steal their souls. Yes you heard me right, a Pokemon killing people and stealing their souls. Awesome right? Right. Her character as a psychic is really explored in said chapter and we get to see a very touching moment near the end of the chapter involving her and the Pokemon she spent years trying to destroy.

Number 7: Lt.Surge [Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow.]

Lt.Surge makes this list purely on one fact. He used Pokemon in a war. Just..... holy shit. First off, the fact that there was a war in the Pokemon world implies that there are various countries that sometimes go to war, and take Pokemon with them to war. Okay, I want to see a Pokemon game where we see Pokemon in a war. Imagine it, Rhyhorn being used as siege engines! Pidgeot being used as aerial fighters, fucking Scyther being used as assassins! Can you imagine the possibilities ! And Lt.Surge used Electric type Pokemon to power his plane and according to him, his Pokemon saved his life. When you face him in the games you are facing Pokemon that have been in fucking war. In real life, your Pokemon would have their asses kicked from one end of the street to the other! Plus his design regardless of generation is always badass. A soldier who took Pokemon with him to war. The true Lightning American. Just.....awesome!

Number 6: Elesa [Pokemon Black and White.]

Similar problem with Gardevoir. Hard as hell finding pictures that were not hentai. But I can understand it unlike with Gardevoir. Elesa is hot. In the Pokemon universe she's a model and for good reason. I like Elesa because.... I like her design. And no not because I think its hot. I mean I like the way she's designed. She is a model so she wears an outfit that one would expect a model to wear, especially a model who is a Gym Leader and uses Electric Type Pokemon. The....weird cord things on her ear, the way her outfit is yellow and black, the common colors of electric types, and her slim yet attractive physique. I love her design and I love the way her Gym is designed to be like a roller coaster, or in B2 or W2 where its a runway. If I ever thought of a model who styled herself after Electric type Pokemon, Elesa is exactly what would come to mind.

Number 5: Blaine [Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow.]

You have to respect a man like Blaine. He builds a Gym on Cinnabar Island, the ACTIVE volcano on it erupts destroying the city, and what does he do? Moves to the nearby Seafoam Islands and builds a new Gym. Now in the originals his new Gym was just a cave big enough for him [which I really liked because it showed a lot about his character] but in the remakes he had a much larger Gym built in the cave. But aside from being the second most powerful Gym Leader in the Kanto region, its very possible he had something to do with the creation of Mewtwo since he is good friends with Mr.Fuji. In addition he is one of the few characters in the games to have seen a legendary Pokemon, specifically Moltres. Powerful, intelligent, and good enough to be graced by a Legendary Pokemon, Blaine is cool. No pun intended.

Number 4: Koga [Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow.]

Koga is a ninja and as if that wasn't cool enough, he has one of the best Gyms in the history of Pokemon. Do you have any idea what it was like trying to navigate that fucking place when you were a little kid and had no idea how to reach him? Truly only a ninja, a master of assassination, illusion, and stealth could come up with something so diabolical. He uses Poison type Pokemon to inflict debilating status conditions which fit perfectly into his character as a ninja. But the coolest part about it is the fact that he was so skilled, that he became a member of the Johto Elite Four. When I saw him as an Elite Four member my jaw dropped it was so frieking cool. Who saw that coming? A Gym Leader becoming an Elite Four member? It hasn't happened since, and if it has we haven't seen it.

Number 3: Volkner [Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum]

Okay, I swear to god Volkner is based off the 4th Hokage from Naruto. I swear look at his picture carefully and compare it to the 4th. THEY COULD BE BROTHERS. This alone could be enough to put him on this list, but that's not enough no. He is the most powerful Gym Leader in Sinnoh, uses my favorite Pokemon Luxray as his best Pokemon, and he is so damn powerful that he is bored and depressed by how weak everyone else is. He has become so good at what he does, he is bored and depressed by it. Why he is not in the Elite Four by now, I have no idea. It would be awesome to finally have an Elite Four member who uses Electric type Pokemon. Plus his backstory and personality are even more flushed out in the anime.

Number 2: Clair [Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal.]

Okay, Clair was one of those Gym Leaders that took me FOREVER to beat when I played Gold for the first time. Her Kingdra was the most annoying Pokemon I have ever had to fight, even more so than Whitney's fucking Miltank [Just thinking about that.....FUCKING COW makes me pissed....] And then even after two days of trying in vain to beat her I finally do....and she says I'm not worthy of the badge and I need to do more shit before I get it. So why is she on this list if I seem to hate her? Because I don't hate her. I love her for all of that. She is what a final Gym Leader should be. She is proud, powerful, uses a powerful Pokemon type, and when defeated she is shocked. So shocked that she needs to be sure you are worthy of her badge. And what do you get out of doing this? A Dratini in Crystal and the remakes. She is an interesting character because she goes above and beyond her role as a Gym Leader by making you go that extra mile when you defeat her, which was already a challenge to begin with. When I finally got the Rising Badge, I felt it. I had earned that badge.

Number 1: Norman [Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald.]

I'll admit, Generation 3 was not one of my favorites. But out of everything that was in Gen III, Norman was the best thing that came out of it. Not only is he one of the strongest Gym Leaders in Hoenn, but he is your father in the game. That's right. In Gen III, you are the child of a Gym Leader. The fact that Pokemon introduced an emotional facet into a Gym battle was pure brilliance that no one saw coming. Fighting Norman was the most exciting thing in the entire game and everything leading up to it was exciting. You wanted to get to Norman in the game just so you could see what Pokemon he used, how powerful he was, and so you could say you defeated your father in a Pokemon game. In terms of character, Norman is the best out of all the Gym Leaders because there is emotional depth to your battle with him. Father vs child, testing you to see if you have surpassed him, wanting you to succeed but also doing his very best to defeat you to live up to his title of Gym Leader. Just, wow. We need more plots like this in Pokemon games.

And those are my favorite Gym Leaders. Hope you enjoyed reading this :).

Top 15 Favorite Pokemon

Folks, I love Pokemon. No further introduction is needed. From the time I discovered them at age 9 with Pokemon Gold version, I have been in love with almost every aspect of Pokemon. And through five generations of Pokemon I have managed to narrow down the 600 something species down to 15 of my favorite Pokemon ever. Now before we continue, lets establish the rules I set for myself. Three Pokemon from each generation so I could include all five generations. So before we get to the list lets list off some honorary mentions.

Infernape
Drapion
Darkrai
Eon Duo (Latios and Latias)
Celebi
Salamence
Tyranitar
Arcanine
Lucario
Gallade
Samurott

Now lets get to the list. Please bear in mind, this will be a long blog.

Number 15

Aerodactyl

Okay folks, I love dinosaurs. Velociraptors most of all. But I also love Pterodactyls. You see? You see where this is going? The moment I saw Aerodactyl for the first time [In the Champion battle against Lance] I fell in love. As well as being one of my favorite flying types ever, Aerodactyl has pretty good stats and has a good type combination, namely Rock/Flying. Not much to say here really. I love dinosaurs. Aerodactyl is the coolest Fossil Pokemon in my humble opinion. Next Pokemon!

Number 14

Zoroark

Another case of love at first sight ladies and gentlemen. When I saw this Pokemon for the first time, I thought Generation V was going to be the most bad ass generation ever [Then I saw Vanilluxe. Oh.] I love foxes, and I love illusions in fiction. And with the power to create illusions and appear as other Pokemon, Zoroark is pretty damn cool. Not to mention Zoroark's first appearance in Zoroark: Master of Illusions, was arguably the best way to introduce this Pokemon with one of the best stories as far as Pokemon movies go. I love foxes, illusions, this Pokemon's design, and its ability to look like other Pokemon. Next!

Number 13

Cubone

I want to give this baby a hug and tell it everything will be okay. I love dark stories. And this? This is as dark as it gets folks. For those of you unfamiliar, Cubone is a baby Pokemon who wears the skull of its dead mother. Yeah. Enjoy your nightmares. While something like that is dark and something I greatly enjoy, I cannot help but feel nothing but compassion for this poor thing. Plus, I needed to put a cute Pokemon on this list. Your welcome. There are lots of theories on this Pokemon and whether or not its a natural Pokemon, since every Cubone that is ever born would mean that their mothers die shortly after giving birth [which would add a whole new layer of dark to this story don't get me wrong] but this cannot be as it would be implausible. I follow the Kangaskhan theory, that Cubone is that little baby in Kangaskhan's pouch, and that when a Kangaskhan dies or if its murdered by someone or something, the baby takes the skull of its mother and wears the skull, becoming a Cubone. How does it evolve into Marowak then? Its Pokemon. The science is not flawless. Cute, dark, and more sad than seeing Bambi's mom killed, Cubone is is a Pokemon every fan knows of and at the very least feels sorry for.

Number 12

Torterra

Ah Torterra. My favorite Sinnoh starter. Why do you suck so badly in the anime? Why have you been reduced to a punchline because of Ash? Damn it. Folks, Ash's Torterra is a disgrace to the species. A Pokemon based off of the concept of a World Turtle? How much cooler can you get? Plus its Grass and Ground which means it can get a STAB bonus from one of my favorite moves ever, Earthquake! I love the look of this Pokemon which reminds me of the World Turtle, I love the typing since its part Ground which is one my favorite types, and I love MY Torterra which is capable of one shotting every single one of the Elite Four's Pokemon because of the EV training I've had my Torterra undergo. When Ash's Torterra lost to a Hippowdon and an Electivire, I knew right away that his Torterra would be the one that the other's face palm to.

Number 11

Scizor

I don't like Bug Pokemon. There I admitted it. I rarely, and I mean rarely, use Bug Pokemon. But Scyther? Scyther is beast, and Scizor is a pimp. While the typing may make it guaranteed that one Fire type attack will kill it instantly, Scizor is so cool we don't even care. But the one frustrating thing about Scizor is the fact that you need to trade it while its holding a Metal Coat. Like trading to make a Pokemon evolve wasn't bad enough, for some they need to be holding a specific item?! WTF?! Meh.... I rarely have Scizor for this reason. But when I do get it, I make sure to hold onto it. Its got good stats and can be a good sweeper, but most importantly, Scizor is cool. And that's all we need.

Number 10

Hydreigon

Why can't Hydreigon look like this!? And why can't it be huge?! Like big enough for you to sit on its head comfortably?! HOLY SHIT IT WOULD BE THE COOLEST DRAGON POKEMON EVER!!
But in all seriousness yes. Yes to this Pokemon. Based off a Hydra. A Dragon/Dark Pokemon. Just yes. When I heard there was going to be a new Pseudo Legendary that was going to be a Dark/Dragon Pokemon, my expectations were through the roof I was so excited. And then I saw Hydreigon, and while it wasn't as cool as I imagined, it was still pretty awesome despite being little by comparison to other Pseudo-legendaries. It has the highest Sp. Atk of any pseudo, and has one of the best designs of Gen V, this Pokemon is powerful and would be terrifying if Game Freak had just worked on it a little bit more. Thank god for DeviantArt for making cool pics like this.

Number 9

Umbreon

Everyone loves Umbreon. This is a fact. And I am not immune to Umbreon's coolness or cuteness. My favorite Eevolution by far, and I had to put one on this list. While its not that good of a Pokemon stat wise unless you want a shield, Umbreon's appearance and status as an Eevolution puts it at a high spot on this list. Whenever I get an Eevee, I have it evolve into Umbreon just because of how much I love it.

Number 8

Absol

Such.... a beautiful Pokemon. Such a mysterious Pokemon. This is creativity at its finest people. A Pokemon we still know very little about, only that it was once heralded as a sign of doom to the people in the Pokemon world. Whenever Absol appears it is a sign that a great disaster is coming. That was the myth. The truth is that Absol is able to sense when disaster is coming and appears to warn people. So easy to mistake the two isn't it? I love the idea of this Pokemon. That its a misunderstood creature trying to aid humanity, but humanity is so damn stubborn and prone to seeing what they want to believe that they cannot accept what this Pokemon is actually doing. Why Absol still go out of their way to warn humans is beyond me, but it shows that it may have an unshakeable loyalty to humanity as a whole. They are pretty good Pokemon to have in your party and the idea of them is cool. One of the best Pokemon to come out of Gen III, and a Pokemon I still have to this day, my female Absol Calamity. Look at this picture while listening to Wolf's Rain music, you will get watery eyes.

Number 7

Gengar

Shiver.....This damn Pokemon still haunts my nightmares. For those of you wondering, yes I did find the scariest fan picture of Gengar I could find. Why? So you could wet the bed with me. Gengar is such a damn scary Pokemon that I'm amazed more people aren't afraid of it. But I love Gengar for that. It reminds me of a cartoon ghost and the Cheshire Cat in all the best ways. But best of all? Its a damn good Ghost Pokemon. The downside? Another fucking trade evolution. Joy. The moment I saw this Pokemon in the anime I was terrified but intrigued. Honestly I am amazed that there aren't more mature dark Pokemon fan fics with Gengar as one of, or the main villain or at least owned by the main villain  Whenever I see Gengar, I get excited. Whether it was the Morty gym battle in the anime, Ash vs Agatha, or even Ash vs Fantina, I love seeing this Pokemon in the anime because its smile creeps me out, and I know shit just got real. Gengar, you creeper.

Number 6

Gardevoir

Do you people have any idea how hard it was to find a decent pic of Gardevoir that wasn't hentai or Rule 34?! I spent, HOURS looking for a good looking pic and in the end this was the only tasteful pic I could find! What is wrong with you perverts taking one of my favorite Pokemon and turning it into a sex object?!

Okay rant is over. Why I love this Pokemon. I love this Pokemon for two main reasons, one it is beautiful, and two, I would want it in real life. Now let me explain. The reason this Pokemon is beautiful is not because it has a feminine form, its because of the more subtle things. The coloring, the way its shaped, and the way it moves. Graceful, gentle, and calm. These are the things Gardevoir gives off from the way its designed. Its a silent beauty meant to appeal on a subconscious level. Why I would want it in real life is for a very specific reason. Gardevoir has the power to soothe the mind of people and Pokemon it cares about. This to me comes out as meaning it can help people who are depressed. AKA it is a Pokemon I need lol. I can imagine how this Pokemon helps people who are depressed or sad, and it comes as no surprise that in a lot of fan fics  of Pokemon that losing this people can cause people to turn evil. I would hate the world a million times over if I had a Gardevoir and someone murdered it. A Pokemon that carries a lot of interesting themes and has such a good and kind nature that people can turn evil and nihilistic over its death, I recommend you listen to Darcia's theme from Wolf's Rain when looking at this Pokemon. You will cry. I promise you.

Number 5

Honchkrow

I love crows and ravens. I didn't care much about Murkrow though because it wasn't that visually appealing to me. But when Honchkrow appeared I had a reason to get a Murkrow. This Pokemon is a boss. Literally lol. Its based off of a Mafia godfather and has feathers on its head look like a fedora. Like with Gengar, every time I see this Pokemon I know shit just got real. I love the design, I love the attitude this bird has and the pride it exhibits when battling, and I love the mentality of it. Gen IV was my favorite generation of Pokemon and Honchkrow helped making it my fave. I always have this bird in my reserves or in my main party, and always will. The only possible way this bird could be cooler is if it had a Tommy gun, or if it appears in a special edition of the Godfather as the family bird. I'm just kidding. Hollywood don't you dare ruin that movie. Moving on!

Number 4

Feraligatr

This one is mostly nostalgia based I'll admit. You see, my first Pokemon game was Gold Version for the Gameboy Color and..... my very first Pokemon was a Totodile. Story time! I was such a dumb kid that I couldn't figure out how to access the Pokeball menu, so I played through the entire game with Totodile until it evolved. I beat Red with only Ferligatr. I wish I had recorded it. This Pokemon will always have a special place in my heart as my very first Pokemon, my most powerful Pokemon of all time, and my favorite water type Pokemon. Blastoise checks under his bed for this beast folks.

Number 3

Flygon

I want this Pokemon in real life. Just so that I can fly on its back. Best, transportation, ever. This is the coolest Dragon type Pokemon ever. In my opinion. But my opinion is the best lol. When I caught a Trapinch in Pokemon Ruby my expectations were low until it evolved into Vibrava and I began to wonder. Then  when it evolved my jaw dropped. I love absolutely everything about this Pokemon. I love its design, I love its type, I love its Pokedex entry, I love the fact that its rarely appeared in the anime so I don't have to see it get beaten by convoluted writing. In the end, this is a damn good Dragon, and its one of three Pokemon I would want in real life.

Number 2

Eagles are my favorite bird. There I said it. I love this Pokemon because its based on my favorite bird. I'm glad Ash didn't get this one in the anime and that its rarely showed up at all because I don't want to see it ruined. This Pokemon isn't just one of the strongest Flying types, but it has one of the best designs of Generation V. I hate that its pre-evolution needs to be level 54 to evolve into Braviary but its worth it in the end to get this majestic Pokemon that combines sheer power with speed and grace. And the fact that it can learn Superpower is pretty cool too.

Number 1

Luxray

You all saw this coming. You already knew what Number 1 was. I know this. But just listen. This is the main reason Gen IV is my favorite Gen. Because it took my favorite animal, turned it into a badass looking Pokemon, and a pretty good Pokemon to have. This is another case of a Pokemon that I absolutely love  for  every single reason. Its design, colors, Pokedex entries, abilities, etc. But what I love most of all? Its shown in the anime a decent amount, and it does one thing that cements it in my mind as the best Pokemon ever. It beats Ash's Pikachu like the little bitch it is. With a Shockwave to the ass. I'm not even kidding look up the battle. When I found out about this Pokemon, I knew I had to have it. I now own a Shiny Luxray named Griever that was bred specifically to be a powerful attacker and take hits while being reasonably fast. I want this Pokemon in real life just to have it. I go out of my way to make sure this Pokemon is in my party for every game from Gen IV up. Plus Shinx are cute too so its worth raising.

And those are my 15 favorite Pokemon of all time. Hope you enjoyed reading this. My brain is fried now. Have great day everyone.
